Fire as Medicine For Land and People

On the weekends of March and April, we invite you to come to develop your relationship with fire through prescribed fire work. When the weather is accommodating we will continue to chaperone fire through the landscape. After making sure that everyone is clear of safety measures, we will hold space for a direct relationship with fire.

Land and humans have a profound relationship with fire as an elder and healer. Many of us are interested in prescribed fire because of its known benefits to heal the land by reducing fuels for wildfire, remineralizing the soil with char, riding oak forests of parasites, making habitat for the megafauna of the forest, and the list goes on. We would like to share with you what power fire has in helping humans to heal and transform themselves.

There is much of this experience that is ineffable, but there are a few things we can share from personal experience about how Good Fire has helped us. Spending time with this ancient elder in this capacity with prolonged silence has been a type of initiation, deep remembering, and a practice of deep cleansing. We tend to the fires with a thread of silence with plenty of room for safety, action plan clarification, and quiet sharing.

Oftentimes, the weather conditions support us in taking fire into the night. Due to a drop in humidity, the fires take on a different energy that gives us a different opportunity for connection. We tend to have more of a gathering energy where we share our experiences, tell stories and make music. When there are enough of us we will designate a sitting spot to focus around.

These WEEKENDS ARE NOT WORKSHOP, although you will receive guidance and hands-on experience. On weekends that are not suitable to light fire due to weather conditions, we will continue to prep the land for when the weather conditions are appropriate to welcome fire back again. Typically we light the first fire of the day between 11 am and 1 pm and keep open check-ins about all of our comfort levels to continue the burning. Sometimes we have brought the day to a joyful close between 1-2 AM.

We invite you to come to do this work with us and encourage you to bring clear intentions of transforming your inner landscape while we transform the outer landscape together. This is a safe and sacred space to offer your struggles and manifestations to the fire. We will have tobacco we grew, cedar, and lavender offer. We encourage you to write down anything you are ready to let go of and separately anything you are calling n to your life and bring the writings with you. All organic lunch and dinner on Saturday and breakfast and lunch on Sunday will be provided for $40.
