Harvest Workshop

Techniques of Regenerative Harvest: May 16th and 17th

Skill Building Practicum : May 18th - 22nd

Over the course of our workshop we will be focusing on:

  • Approach to Regenerative Forestry, covering the different considerations of landscape literacy that are essential to ethical decision making.

  • Understanding Ideal Harvest Time

  • Chainsaw Safety and Operation

  • Using Block and Tackle to guide tree fall and move your harvest out of the forest.

  • Classroom and Hands on Tree Felling Techniques.

  • An Introduction to Preventing Wildfire and Preparing for Good Fire.

  • Touring broad scale acreage of tended forest with a focus on both good and bad fire in the landscape.

  • Forest Reciprocity. The human/non human agreements of exchange.

What is Included:

  • 2 Days of hands on class and lectures

  • 3 organic protein rich meals per day - locally sourced and grown on site

  • Morning Movement / Asana practice

  • Forest Camping, Bath House, Sauna & Composting Toilets

  • The Hands On Skill Building Practicum also includes all of the above except lecture time.

The Hands on Skill Building Practicum is an opportunity to go beyond the workshop setting and gain experience in the field. No two tree falls are the same, each tree presents different considerations to a safe and predictable fall. Gain experience during this week of guided mentorship falling trees. The work in the practicum will serve Oak Woodland Restoration and produce Timber for Building.

Students will be welcome to come Thursday night preceding the weekend to set up camp and get settled in. if commuting we ask that you be timely for instruction. Meals will start with Fridays breakfast and end with the following Thursday’s dinner.

Typical daily structure:

  • 7am morning movement (optional)

  • 8am all organic breakfast

  • 9am classroom time

  • 12:30pm all organic lunch & siesta

  • 2pm getting into the forest

  • 3pm hands on class

  • 6:30pm all organic dinner

Solidarity: $250
